CAF Airbase Georgia Trusts Tyson Transport & Rentals to Haul Historic WWII B-17/B-24 Ball Turret to Arizona

Some trailer rentals are memorable because of the distance. Others are memorable because of the cargo. This rental was both!

We recently had the privilege of providing our 22-foot flatbed car hauler trailer to CAF Airbase Georgia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and flying historic World War II aircraft. Based in Peachtree City, Georgia, Airbase Georgia maintains one of the country's most impressive collections of vintage military aircraft and is operated by hundreds of passionate volunteers dedicated to preserving aviation history.

Their mission for this trip was to transport an authentic ball turret (the distinctive retractable gun position found beneath American B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator bombers during World War II) to its new home in Arizona.

A Unique Piece of WWII Aviation History

Looking at the photo, the ball turret is mounted inside a heavy-duty steel transport cradle that keeps the artifact secure during long-distance travel. The frame itself is clearly labeled: "B17 BALL TURRET B24"

The turret appears to be carefully supported above the trailer deck to protect its delicate structure, while additional equipment is securely strapped down alongside it using heavy-duty ratchet straps. Every part of the load was properly distributed and secured for the cross-country journey.

This isn't the type of cargo you see every day. It's a genuine piece of American aviation history that once protected bomber crews flying dangerous missions over Europe during World War II.
